I don't often sell rough, but my friend in Namibia has been acquiring some very nice Demantoid Garnet for a very reasonable price, and I want to help both him and my colleagues in the USA. So, I'm going to be offering a hand-picked selection of this material here for a while.
Each of the stones I'm showing was hand-selected by me, as suitable for faceting with regard to clarity and mechanical stability. Demantoid Garnet has a very high RI (1.88) and a very high dispersion, so the finished stones from this material are usually pretty stunning. This larger stone has two cracks that will affect yield a bit. The remainder of the stone is very clear for this kind of material. In most lights this stone is root-beer color; under fluorescent it demonstrates a significant green shift to an olivine color. |
